RetinaSys: Generalized and Explainable DR Detection

Research under Dr. K. Vijayalakshmi

Research Overview:

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains a leading cause of blindness globally, especially among working-age adults. Traditional screening methods are labor-intensive, subjective, and limited in resource-poor environments. RetinaSys is a novel system that not only automates DR detection with state-of-the-art deep learning but also integrates explainable AI (xAI) to ensure interpretable decision-making. The system generalizes across diverse demographics using robust training on varied datasets and is optimized for real-time deployment in resource-constrained settings.

Research Objectives:

  • Develop a scalable, high-performing DR detection model
  • Integrate explainable AI for transparent clinical decisions
  • Enhance generalization across diverse populations
  • Optimize the system for real-time deployment in resource-limited environments
